What to prepare before project design

The first step in design is organizing the available information. Reviewing the site, intended use, equipment and interfaces together makes the technical assessment clearer.

01

Collect existing documents

Gather previous drawings, site photographs, equipment lists and system information where available. Note when and for which conditions each document was created. An old drawing may not fully describe the present installation.

02

Describe the operating scenario

Explain how the space or system will be used. Operating patterns, capacity expectations and possible future changes are useful inputs to the preparation discussion. They reveal conditions that may influence the technical solution.

03

Agree how decisions and revisions are handled

Clarify who reviews the documents, what information is outstanding and how changes will be shared. Working from different versions of a drawing can cause confusion. A consistent current record helps participants work from the same information.
